If have seen many videos on it.
But people say it works on elo points, and some say it doesn't,
and is just how you perform in-game.
The reason I am asking this is because I got ranked back down to sem.
It took me two weeks to get back up to gn1 (I reached it and I got deranked from losing two games in a row)
It pissed me off because it took me 2 weeks to get back up. And I'm still pissed.
So how does the ranking system work?

It's an Elo based system, but a slight twist to the system as it has a lot of factors.
You get more or less Elo depending on how your kill to deaths are looking, how many MVP stars you have, bomb plants / defuses, plus the ranks of the enemy team.
That is one of the reasons playing on a high level sucks, I am currently a Distinguished Master Guardian player, so if I get in a game with a smurf or a hacker who is MG1 and they win and carry, I will lose more Elo than if I lost a fair game because their rank was a lot lower than mine.
If you want to rank up on CSGO from lower ranks you want to get together a good 5 man and go on a win spree, you will get ranked up fastest that way. Solo Queue is a hit or miss.
