Hey guys, first off let me say that i have like zero experience with cars and i have about 3K USD to spend, so is this a good first car for me? I really like BMW's but heard that maintaining them are really expensive. So i found this guy that is selling it for 2800 and it seems rather cheap and i would like you guys to let me know if this is a good buy or not. Thanks!

Here are the specs he explained, he says he's moving out of town and he needs to sell it asap.

BMW 323i 2000.
New tires 2 months old.
Brakes changed with the tires.
Oil changed last month synthetic 100%
Transmission fluid changed last month also.
Leather interior in good condition no rips or tears gray.
AC cold air.
CD player
All electric and working perfect.
Electric sunroof.
Clean Title
Tags good till December
Viper alarm rolls windows up.
The car runs excellent and strong
ODO 159000

The car:

High miles, think about it, all the stuff that comes apart with average wear and tear is probably gonna come very quickly with this car if it hasnt already.. id imagine you will double the price in repair costs within 2 years.

I think that is a good chunk of miles for your price range, but it's also a BMW.

I would not get a BMW for a first car for exactly what you said. Maintenance / repairs is expensive. My uncle got sideswiped (guy hit is car while parking) so he needed a new quarter panel, and arguably a rear bumper. He got quoted 2500 to fix the damage. This isn't a new beamer either, this is like a mid 90's beamer.

I wouldn't take it, you may want a bmw but you won't find one that's worth driving or owning at $3000. Miles wise you'll probably be looking at numbers around there anyway for your first car but I say save the money and headache of buying that and find something cheaper and more reliable

For a first car, buying an old BMW is going to be a headache. There's a reason why people say BMW stands for Bring Money With.

Look at some honda civics. They look nice, get good gas mileage, and the maintenance isn't that much for them.

Doesn't sound to bad for a BMW with 159K miles but repairs on that thing is going to be a expensive pain in the ass tho

In the UK we can pick them up for a lot cheaper, also repairs are cheap.

But anyway, it's not bad but 160k miles is a lot for anything, try to aim below 100k if getting one.
