So I live in the south, and today I saw a "gang" of at least 10-20 pick-up trucks all behind me all waving the American and Confederate flag. It was a sight to see haha. Personally, I don't think the flag is racist. Flags aren't racist. People are. The Confederate flag once stood for something, but has been changed and altered throughout the years. People can call it what they want, but it just shows their ignorance if they think that the confederate flag symbolizes racism.

Beet wrote When I used the confederate flag as my avatar on this site for over 3 years I looked at it as southern pride. Upon actually educating myself on the matter I lost respect at the flag and today cringe at the thought of me using it. I do believe that the reason many still use it is just A. Ignorance or B. They are just plain racists. For most of the people on this site and in America, I do believe that A applies to them.
As for the swastika most of the people that still see it as a symbol of peace and love are from South Asia. Most in the Western world see it just as the Nazi Party symbol.

It's not only in South Asia but it is more common over there, yes. I think calling them ignorant is a little harsh. Granted, many who are proud of the confederate flag are uneducated but that can be said about many, many things. I mean, so many people in England and Scotland have British flags(actually, Scotland is usually Scottish flags, as opposed to British) on their windows, simply because it's where they live. A few years back, I'd have gladly hung a Scottish flag in my room. Ask me now, why I'd have done that and I couldn't even give you an answer. Many don't understand or know the history behind the confederacy(myself included, I'm not all too wised up on it which is why I don't really have a stance on the confederate flag personally).

Then you agree that the Swastika does not symbolize racism?

I doubt this will be closed for no reason. If it turns in to a flame war or a bunch of childish kids spouting bs and racism, then it will be closed, obviously. As long as it remains a sensible discussion, I'm sure it will remain open.

That's a pretty sad view to have. You posted in the rant section, of course people are going to disagree with you. That's like me putting up a thread saying "Scotland is better than everywhere else in the world" and then when someone disagree's(and ultimately proves me wrong), I could just reply with "wow, this was about how Scotland is guder than everywhere, nothing contradicting me or proving me wrong should be discussed". Again, I'm not disagreeing with you per se, but I don't agree with you either and some of your points/arguments are totally flawed. I'm just pointing that out, and if I don't, someone else will eventually. I can't stress this enough, don't get butthurt or pissed off over this, it's simply a discussion.

Oh, and again, you can't simply say that the confederate flag is not racist because some black people are holding it. Just because someone isn't white, doesn't mean they're not racist or can be excused for racism. Racism is racism, regardless of race, gender, sexuality etc etc.

Google it then?

Not once did I say you called the swastika racist. What I said, was that if you don't think the confederate flag symbolizes racism, you must think the same of the swastika, right?

I agree with this point because I very much can see how it could be seen as offensive. To add to the discussion though, I don't feel like everyone who is proud(?) of the confederate flag are necessarily racist ir purposely trying to offend anyone. Much the same as many people still use and refer to the Swastika as a sign of peace and tranquility but then there are the assholes out there who think "hurr durr, I'm a racist, gon' get me a Swastika tat" or some shit.

So because I'm an American and support the Confederate Flag makes me ignorant? Or even racist for that matter?
