First off, I hate it when people say the confederate flag is considered to be a symbol of racism . I'm a very patriotic person and I love my american flag. But who are you to say one flag is a symbol of racism.

I dont see it as a sign of hate, but I dont see the need to fly it outside of government buildings.

the reason i think its racist is cause people started to put the flag up after the church killing
i didn't see no one with that sh** up as their avatar after that happened
and the flag is a reminder of slavery thats everyone is making a big deal about it including me.

Come to the south. The flag has been flying in my town and just about everywhere down here. It's not all of a sudden, it may be for you because you don't know shit about it and your using the excuse of the church shooting as your motive. Not saying that wasn't a racist crime, but your judging the whole flag and it's background by one factor. And as for it being put in people's avatars, it's to show our pride. Not to show, "Oh hey I hates them there black folks" No. We're simply standing up for something we think is right and shouldn't be taken away.

and the flag is a reminder of slavery thats everyone is making a big deal about it including me.


I have no clue why people are making such a big deal over slavery still. Literally every race has been enslaved at some point.

If you read the declarations the states made when they tried to succeed from the United States, it could totally be seen as racist. If you read the Cornerstone Speech, it could totally be seen as racist. Is it racist? I don't really care either way to be honest. It is a flag that just shouldn't be flying on government property. If people see it as racist, I can't really blame them. I, personally, can't stand the flag. I mean, the Confederacy wanted out of the US and it fought the US. Why would I care to fly a flag that represents that even as a southern person? Never understood it, and most likely never will. Anyway, the Confederacy is dead. It is over. The short lived "country" is gone. We are the United States and nothing more.

To be fair, "Literally every race has been enslaved" is not a very good argument. Just because it happened a long time ago does not mean it doesn't happen today, and does not make it something to forget the only thing scarier than the thought of having free speech silenced is probably the thought of us forgetting our past.

But I don't really have an opinion on the flag, I don't personally support it, but I think that everyone should have the right to voice their opinions, whether I agree with them or not.

Also guys can we please try and keep this thread clean, Staff are tired of removing all of the topics that have been derailed due to racism and flaming as of late. Play nice and have a meaningful debate and there won't be an issue, thanks!

People will always make a big deal over slavery no human should be deserved to be treated that way we are all the same so that just proves right there that you're a racist

Let me start by saying I live 20 minutes outside of Gettysburg (If you've never heard of it, pick up a history book). The flag IS flown in Gettysburg, even though the North won the battle and the war.

In my town, Chambersburg (You also may have heard of it, history buffs). Nobody flys the flag. The only time I see it in my town is at school, whenever the 'rednecks' have it on their belt buckle.

Now, just because these people themselves are racists. (I'm not saying all 'rednecks' are racists, but these particular few are) doesn't make the flag racists.

Why if Dylann Roof would have had a Swastika? Would we be upset at Germany? Those ignorant few, maybe. Yes.
