First off I'd like to make a disclaimer that I'm sorry if I manage to use anyone's username as an exact example in this topic.

Does it anger anyone else when people make their profile name or change their name to have REP in it that way it makes people subconsciously want to give them rep? Rep doesn't even really mean anything-- I mean, it does-- but it's not as serious as some people think. A user with 1,000 rep power that's been here four or five years and just wants to make a quick buck by scamming could be less trustworthy than a new user who is serious about selling... Sure, rep COULD be a good indicator at times... but I think that rep should be earned... not 'social engineered' into giving someone rep. I don't mind if people say +Rep and thanks are appreciated when they are doing a giveaway or a lobby, that is understandable because they are giving something away or doing a service that is worth more than the TTG Rep that they are going to receive. I just believe that rep should be earned and when people see names like RepGame or RepWars or whatever these new usernames are or the blinking avatars that some people have, it just makes people want to give them rep which shouldn't necessarily be the case.

this gets me every time after realizing how stupid it sounds in a gold giveaway

"thank and rep arent required but highly appreciated" pretty much means give me rep and thanks... I cant stand this, but oh well.

but yeah it is kinda annoying.

People are more inclined to rep users with "rep" in their name? Shit, if that's true, I'll change my username asap.

My way of viewing it is that if rep means nothing, the idiots that boost/manipulate for it can do what they want. Ultimately, they're just wasting their time.

I don't think it plays a huge part in b/s/t anymore so let them get their meaningless digital green bars.

I'm okay with asking for rep for giveaways because they are giving back a lot to the community, it's just the name/profile stuff.

If they post a topic of their own offering a service or something similar, I think it's perfectly fine for them to ask for rep or thanks. If they expect rep and/or thanks just because that's a different story.

If I see people with the word Rep in their name, motto, avatar, signature I'm not going to rep them.
People who are desperate/obsessed with rep don't deserve it imo.
