Clock speed is what it says 3.4GHz or whatever, you don't multiply it by each core like a lot of pre built company's think. else I would be running at 27GHz right now...

As for dual vs quad core, in this instance a quad core would be the better solution because a dual core CPU just isn't up for modern games anymore.


So would you say that my build is good for under 400GBP or not?

Lold at 12GHz i5. I have no idea why people are disagreeing with the i3. That Twin Frozr 285 is a steal and will give a considerable performance boost over a 260x. i3 has HT anyway so isn't becoming obsolete like true dual cores, such as Pentium's.

I'd get something like this;

Add another 4GB RAM and an SSD asap. After that, you can look at a CPU upgrade.
