If it is a .rar or .zip you must change the extention to .ipsw instead of rar or zip

You can't change filetypes just by renaming the file. You will have to use a file type converter like [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

you are 100% correct butt most web browsers such as fire fox can save ipsw's with the wrong extension its not the file type that is wrong just the extension.
