I don't want to lose my 1tb worth of steam games, is there any way I can transfer the OS and keep them?

There is no way to easily 'transfer' the OS.
The way I had done it is install a fresh copy of your OS to the SSD then copy and replace your current files to the SSD - overwriting the fresh ones.
It should keep most of your OS stuff intact but you will have a lot of tweaking to do.
