I'm building my first pc and I want to know what would be the better choice.
My graphics card is the MSI Radeon r9 270.

I'd go with the Pentium. More upgradeability to begin with, and it's overclocking abilities. Intel processors also have better performance per core as you've probably heard many others users say.

I have heard that but I also heard that newer games coming out in 2015 run much better with four+ cores. Also the g3258 only suppourts ddr3 1333 and I have ddr3 1600.

It'll run 1600, I'm almost positive. If I can recall correctly, someone brought that up awhile ago and someone stated that they had a pentium and were running DDR3 1600 without any problems.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

There is no such CPU as the X4 870K, I'm assuming you mean the 860k?

The G3258 has more upgradability. Games such as FC4 and AW require 4 core CPUs minimum but there are work around to use a Pentium. GTA V minimum requirements is quad core, but I'm sure there will also be a work around for that. The G3258 will perform just as well as an X4 860K and is the better choice, unless upgrading isn't an option. If you're able to upgrade CPU within the next few months, then get the G3258. If you wouldn't be able to upgrade for a while, or at all, then the 860k is probably a better option.

Both the G3258 and 860k are overclockable. However, if overclocking isn't an interest of yours, i3 could be a good shout. i3's are dual cores with HT which tricks the OS into believing it's a 4 core CPU, and you'd still have the option to upgrade to an i5/i7/Xeon. 860k is an $85 chip, and you could grab an i3 for about $105.

FYI for everyone, when a processor says it'll support a certain speed of RAM it means without overclocking the memory.

If you have a stick which is made for 1600 or higher Mhz then you can just set that speed in the motherboards BIOS and aslong as the board supports it, the RAM will run at that speed no problem.
