Any players I should pick up for cheap or anything? I'm pretty new to the ultimate team section and I'd love to hear of ways to get my overall up (61 currently.)

I'd just grind solo challenges and keep pulling pro packs until your team can consistently beat those elite teams. I felt around 77 overall was when I could beat elite teams consistently.
After that, I would continue to do solo challenges but save up your coins and check the auction house to continue to build your team or look for cards that people put up for a low amount of coins and bid on them to get a steal and then selling them for their true value. I think it's known as sniping on MUT.

Start on the solo challenges, I recommend doing the Style set, once you finish it you get an 95 Luke Kuechly and an 95 Peyton Manning. You could either keep them, or sell them. Together you would get around 150k if you sell both but I would keep them if I were you unless you pull something better.
