Hey Rot I took a stab at making a list [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] after comparing yours to mine they look somewhat similar. Just for my knowledge what would you change about my list?

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure that PSU isn't great. It's a G1 unit, and I'm pretty sure the G2 units were the better ones. HALP or Alexyy will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure. R5 is out so I'd get an R5 over an R4 but to be fair, the R4's are very well priced now since the R5 was released. RAM is an issue. 4 sticks of 2GB RAM puts you right at your limit, no ugradability. 2GB sticks are too low now-a-days anyway, I never suggest anything less than a single 4GB stick. For boards with only 2 RAM slots, I try to fit a single stick of 8GB RAM into the budget. Z87 board is a waste. There's no need to spend so much on a motherboard, especially when you're not overclocking, which the Xeon and 4440 don't offer anyway. The Xeon I suggested is a 4C/8T CPU, whereas the 4440 is 4C/4T. Editing/rendering and streaming can benefit from the extra threads the Xeon offers. No HDD for mass storage is the probably the biggest mistake with that build though. I really don't recommend anyone get less than a 1TB HDD for mass storage, and an SSD as well, if possible. The SSD is good for faster boot/load times but with game installs coming to be 50+GB in some cases, 120-256GB is just not going to cut it. Other than that, not too bad. Better than some of the shit I've seen suggested around here before.

OP-Since what I suggested was about $20 under budget after promos, you could swap the S340 for an R4 if you wish.

The Define R4 is older, and the new generation of them(R5) was recently released, but it's still a great case. S340 has a PSU shroud and a shroud for cable management so cable management will be better in the S340 than R4. The R4 is slightly bigger and made from better materials, I think it is better for airflow as well. Though, the S340 will of course, still be fine for airflow and space.

The RAM is fine. Speeds, timings and what not make little to no difference. The fact that it's above recommended voltage doesn't mean much, it will still work fine. The fact that the RAM I suggested is faster, is also pretty meaningless.

As for your build, the Xeon I suggested is basically the same CPU as the 4790. Well, it's a 4770 without the iGPU. Since you're using a dedicated card anyway, you won't need the i7's iGPU and without a "k" class CPU, you won't be overclocking so the 4790 is no huge benefit over the Xeon, so with the Xeon being $70 cheaper, much wiser choice. The PSU in the build I suggested is far better. R5 is a beaut case but you shouldn't spend a lot on a case, if it means sacrificing performance elsewhere, in this case, an SSD. Z97 boards are pointless if you;re not going to be making use of their features. If you want the option to SLI 970s in the future, go ahead and get that Gigabyte Z97 board. Back to the RAM, just buy whatever is cheap really. You can grab a red kit of Mushkin RAM that runs at 1.5v for the same price as the black Mushkin kit I suggested. No need to pay $80 for RAM, when you can get some for $60ish. As I said, when it comes to RAM, brand/timings/speeds etc make minimal difference. If you like the look of the R5, get what I suggested and swap the S340 for an R4. There are minimal differences between the R4 and R5, and for you, R4 will be fine. Other than that, there is no SSD which you should really try to get in a $1k build if possible. Also, 1TB is kind of minimal. If you're going to be dealing with videos and what not, as well as gaming, more storage would be wise, but not really necessary. I consider a 1TB HDD the absolute minimum now.
