I just stumbled across this on Reddit today in /Gaming so I thought I'd share it with people that are wanting to get a rough idea of what they could get on a budget or even just play wit... Apologies if this has already been posted.

Not everyone will want a balanced gaming build, but most people who use the site will. Otherwise, it does almost as well as a good human would.

EDIT: It's also saying that a 980 is better than two 970s. My guess is that it's not written to deal with this case.

Yeah I can totally agree, I mean from what Ive read games don't use more than one core of your processor at a time, right? So from my older build I was running a dual core overclocked with a gtx 570 in, no lag great fps feedback on games like bf3, gta iv with shaders etc. So I suppose in those situations no this website would be kinda useless unless you want a rough idea. I don't personally think the 970/80 will compare much? But I can imagine two 970's in sli would totally beast just one 980 on it's own.

CPU performance depends on the game. Some can use whatever CPU resources are available. On average, a few fast cores will perform better than a lot of slower cores in games.

The 970 and 980 use the same architecture, GM204. The 970 is a slightly cut-down 980.

The price difference is much larger than the actual performance difference, which means the 970 performs pretty close to the 980 for a lot less.
