In shocking news it has been announced that Donovan McNabb will not be starting this week or the rest of the year that matter. Shocking right? Well is it? Maybe not

I want you all to think back to October 31st when the Redskins took on the Detroit Lions in what could have been a season making game for the Redskins. Washington was down by 6 with 1 minute and 45 seconds left in the 4th quarter with the ball on their own 30 yard line and the game and possibly even the season on the line and what happens? In comes Rex Grossman who had not thrown a regular season pass since week 13 of the 2009 season.

Its the most important time of the game and you put in a cold quarterback who has been very inconsistent throughout his career? That was not a good sign and then they gave multiple reasons as to why Grossman came in. One day it was McNabb was not familiar with the offense and the signals and another day it was because he was not in good enough of shape to run the 2 minute drill. Honestly did anyone believe that nonsense? I wrote back then that it may be the writing on the wall for McNabb.

Ok now you fast forward to last week going in to week 14 vs the Bucaneers and we hear reports that Grossman took more snaps than usual in practice which had to make one wonder if something was up. Now it is game time vs the Bucaneers and Foxs Jay Glazer says in a pregame report that Grossman would replace McNabb in the game if the coaches were not happy with how McNabb was playing. McNabb finished the game but the Redskins still lost.

Now this week it comes out that McNabb is being benched for the rest of the season.

So should we really be surprised? The more I think about it no we shouldnt because the writing has been on the wall for some time now. They are not happy with how McNabb has been doing and they have a guy in Grossman who from their time together in Houston has prior experience in Kyle Shanahans offense. The temptation has been there to go to Grossman but they didnt want to make the move while the Skins were still in the playoff picture.

Now if the switch backfires it wont cost them a playoff spot and if anything the Redskins chances of getting a better draft pick improve. So they made the move..

McNabb isn't the greatest out there, but he gets the job done!
