EDIT: After looking at a few videos and looking at some articles on rooting my phone [S2] and installing a custom stock android ROM.

Is it worth doing? im currently running 4.1.2 with TouchWiz.
Is it worth the hassle to get stock android when I could just change launchers, i guess.

Would i be able to install stock android 4.1.2 on my Galaxy S2 so i can get rid of the TouchWiz UI and the bloatware?

I've done a google and youtube search for re-installing stock android and nothing came up.

Thanks:)

You'll first need to install Clockwork Mod Recovery for your model number phone, then install a root package via the recovery, then install Cyanogen Mod for you model phone.

You can go to get.cm to get cyanogen and the rest I would recommend doing some googling yourself to learn about it a bit more before doing any of this.

I personally think it is just because I can't stand non-vanilla versions of android, especially TouchWizz, but it's all based on personal preference.

Some benefits you get from it are being rooted so you can do pretty much whatever you want with it. Also cyanogen's customization is insane, you can literally make the UI look however you please and they'll have the latest version of android for your phone as well, you won't be stuck waiting on carrier/samsung updates. It's basically installing freedom on your phone.

But if you just use your phone for basic everyday functions then it might not be worth the hassle.

Its all personal preference.

I really recommend rooting...

I have rooted for as long as i can remember as i hate the touchwiz UI and all the bloatware just like yourself...

I recommend GPE (Google Play Edition)!
it as close to stock as possible but removes all unneeded apps and bloatware ect.
I find it much faster and smoother than the stock ROM and my bnattery life has gone thought the roof since installing it!!!

You can see my post here where the link for GPE is...

Hope this helps!

I currently use Cyanogen with Android 4.4.4 and I much prefer it. After the initial hassle of actually rooting its pretty similar to any android you'd get from a carrier but you get more customisation options. Also if you hate Google Apps you get the choice whether to use them at all.

hassles of rooting are very little.

now installing a custom "rom" is a bit harder

now to make this very clear rooting doesnt void warranty installing custom roms do an Samsung prefers you to root... why? because they dont need to maintain your device so much

with that out of the way

pros of rooting: modded/hacked apps, free apps, custom stuff
cons: ... the very rare possibility of brick

pros of custom rom: custom every thing! newest version! installing faster more efficient kernels

cons: rare possibility of brick. voids warranty ..

do what you want with your phone but make sure you learn your phone every phone is a bit different its up to you to make yours unique
