Hey ttg, i'm having a dilemma..

I'm running out of storage space on my 1tb internal HDD, but i have a question, would it be a better idea to get just another 1tb HDD, or get a larger, 3tb HDD, and copy everything over? Or maybe an external?

My question is, if i install a new 1tb, will i be able to click my downloads folder and see downloads off just one HDD? Both? Will i have to move everything over to the folder?

I'm getting a 128gb ssd today. So, that'll be my master drive, and i'll need to figure out how to move windows over (How do you do that?)

Seriously, help, as always, is much appreciated, and, as always, i'll rep anyone who helps!

Thanks!

-DD

I would recommend doing a complete clean install of Windows onto your new SSD and here's how i'd do it. Remove your current HDD and install your SSD, then use Windows install media to install to the SSD. Once its completed and the system is powered off, plug the HDD power cable but NOT the data cable. The once you boot into windows for the first time, while the system is on, then plug the data cable in. The system will detect the HDD then you can pull all your data you want off of it.

After that you'll need to format the drive or make sure you delete all of the old windows files or it could cause boot issues. Then its up to you whether you use multiple hard drives or one big one.

Will this remove all my programs? If so, is there a way to back them up and restore? If not, do i just move all of them to the SSD? Or are there more steps?

There are tools to transfer an entire OS to a new drive however I do not use them because they can cause issues. So i'd always recommend a complete fresh install.

No, even if you used a one use OEM key, the activator will know you only changed a few drives around and it'll activate fine.
