Preparing your layout

Start off by going to the Window tab and selecting Timeline.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

If done correctly this window should be at the bottom of your Photoshop Application.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now that you have the Timeline window open, go over to File and select New...
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

After selecting New... you'll be required to input the aspect ratio of your image. For this tutorial I'll be making an avatar which has the recommended size of 200x200, but to find the other sizes go to the "How to request work" sticky which will tell you all of the required sizes for TheTechGame.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

After selecting OK a white box will appear, this is your work space. Everything you do from now on is required to be in this area for it to show up on the final design.

Designing your Image

Background

To start off we're going to add a Radial Gradient Overlay. To do this, start off by unlocking the Background Layer by simply left clicking the Padlock located to the right of the Background layer.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

After unlocking the layer, double click it to open the Layer Style window. Once this window is open, select Gradient Overlay and change the Style to Radial.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

The next step is to select Reverse which is just right of the Gradient Preview, then we'll want to turn the Opacity down to about 15%. Once you have done all of this, click OK to apply these settings.

Text

Now that be have the background sorted, we're going to move onto adding text into our image. First of all we're going to add a new layer by clicking the "Create a new layer" button located in the layers window.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now that we have a new layer, we're going to want to select the "Horizontal type tool" and left click within the work space.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

After clicking within the work space, type what you would like to be on your design. To change the colour of the text, search the top of your Photoshop window to find the "Set your text colour" box.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

You can also change the font, font size and more with the other buttons at the top of your window.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

I'll be using the [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] font which was kindly shown to me by AR15 After you have typed your desired text, click the tick at the top of the window and position it where you would like your text to be.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now that we have the default text in place, we're going to add a few layer styles to add a nice effect to it. We're going to start with a Gradient Overlay. To do this we're going to double click the text layer and select Gradient Overlay.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now we're going to change the Blend Mode to Overlay and change the Scale from 100% to 150%.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Next we're going to add a Drop Shadow to our text. To do this first we're going to want to select Drop Shadow from the Layer Styles
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Once on the Drop Shadow window, i suggest turning the Distance down to 2 and the Size down to 3, but that's just what i prefer, play around with the distance and size until it's to your liking. After you have done this, click OK at the top left of the window to apply these changes.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Shine Effect

Now that we have the text and background sorted, it's time to get onto adding the Shining effect too the text. First of all we want to create a new layer like shown before, then we want to select the Rectangle Tool and create a thin but long rectangle on the left hand side of your text.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Make sure that the Fill is either a very light grey or white, do this by finding the box at the top of the window, left clicking it and selecting your colour.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now we have created and colours our rectangle, we want to angle it at 30s to do this, first go to the top of the window and go to Edit then go down to Free Transform Path.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now that we can freely transform our rectangle, hover over the top right corner until you see a curved arrow, then hold left click and move your mouse right, holding Shift will snap to different rotation points, this makes it easier to get the rectangle to 30s
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Once we have it to 30s we want to click the tick at the top of the window like we did with the text. After we have done this we want to add a Gaussian blur to our rectangle. to do this first go to Filter then go down to Blur then select Gaussian Blur
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

After clicking Gaussian Blur a new window should show up, this lets you adjust the blur Radius, i suggest changing the radius to 7.5 but experiment with it and see what you think works best, after you have chosen what radius you would like, then click OK at the top left of the window.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Once you have added the Gaussian blur to your rectangle, now we want to change the Blending mode to overlay and create a clipping mask over the text with the rectangle. to do this, first go over too the layers window, and click the Blending mode menu,
then select Overlay.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

To create a clipping mask from the rectangle over the text, right click the rectangle layer and select Create Clipping Mask
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now we have the shine object setup correctly, we're going to want to click Create Video Timeline at the bottom of the photoshop window.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now we want to click the Convert to frame animation button at the bottom left of the Timeline Window.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

First of all we want to edit a few things here, to start with, edit the Frame delay time on the first Frame to 0.1 Seconds
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now we have done that we want to duplicate the frame, to do this simply click the button that looks like the add new layer button within the layers window.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

After duplicating the frame, we want to select the Move Tool and make sure we're on the Rectangle layer.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

After selecting the move tool, we want to hold LeftClick & Shift and drag from the left side of the work space over too the right.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

now look back down at the Timeline window, hold Shift and select both Frames, then press the Tweens animation frames button, where it says frames to add, put from 15 - 20 and then click OK.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Once you have done this, go too the last frame, and change the Frame delay time to 2 seconds, then click the Selects looping options button and select forever.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

After doing all of that, you're done. now the last thing to do is to save it. Click File > Save for Web.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Once the Save for web window shows up, make sure you're, saving it as a gif, make sure it's on frame 1 by clicking the two arrows pointing left, and make sure the looping options are set to forever, then click save.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

After doing all of that, you should end up with something that looks like this, let me know if you need any extra help!

Although this is something that is really simple, not many people know how to do it. Nice tutorial though. Remember that the longer the text, the more frames you are going to need to make the shine effect look more clean and smooth, the smaller the text the less frames you will need.

Made this for an example
