I am blown away at the amount of people that gift purely for the badge and for the 1000 thanks. More often than not we see stuff like "Goals: Gold Gifter Badge" "1000 Thanks" on Gold giveaway posts. Also they make a giveaway into a competition and a giveaway is just that a GIVEAWAY not some long dragged out topic so that you can get a thanks boost or a flaming topic.

Then people start to add stipulations on their topics and rules which people need to abide by before they can ASK FOR GOLD. So basically we need to obey the rules of a giveaway to WIN gold. This makes no sense to me at all , why can people just not give gold to people without making a POPULARITY topic I mean gold gifter is the title you are going for yet it seems people have got extremely confused about the word GIFT. So here this should enlighten you.

I know most people mean well but think about what you are doing because some are not gifting they are simply using it as a way to get badges and this seems to be the most convenient way to do it it annoys me personally and takes the meaning out of the badge.

Feel free to comment guys....

I can see why you made this topic TDK after we seen those Gold Giveaways earlier this morning,
Where the OP was saying 'dont say thanks on the post but press the thanks button instead."
Then started to list the badges he was going for which is completely unnecessary for a Gold Giveaway topic

Seen a few recent giveaways where you needed a certain amount of posts so you can be entered in to the giveaway which is kinda silly to be truly honest.
You're gifting someone gold not giving them something that very expensive,
It's a gift that you choose to give them with no intentions of getting anything in return.

In my opinion its pretty pointless hosting a giveaway topic if you want something in return for it.

I do agree with you and I see a lot of people just gifting to get the badge which I don't personally agree with.

Then again it is their own money and they can choose to spend it how they like, who am I to say otherwise? After all the money is going towards the site so it will still have a positive impact.

I don't see any problem with someone adding stipulations as long as it is within the rules of the site and in some cases I actually agree with it.

Adding stipulations to a GIVEAWAY c'mon the idea is to give people an opportunity not threaten them to do as you say or else you get nothing.

I am 100% with you

I have seen

This is basically asking for Thanks.

I checked the persons topics to see how often they do it.......Daily was my answer. just under 70 created and around 50 were giveaways.

Surely getting permission off staff to hold a giveaway longer than 24 hours and leaving one topic up would be of more use.

Maybe TTG should have a section where you can buy Badges, then the sad few that believe buying a badge would give them extra popularity and reputation could save some time and TTG could get some quick injections of cash.

I agree with you TDK that people care more about getting badges for them self rather than just doing it for the fun or to help a active helpful member but then again it's helping the site earn more money and also it is there money and if they want to buy them selfs to a badge I say we let them

I enjoy the rant, and while I will admit I did it for the badge. It was merely for the badge but in thought it was also thinking of giving towards the TTG funds. Anyways, nice rant!

I can see where you're coming from but I think it sometimes adds variety to the site as lots of people just put "post why you deserve gold" etc etc. Having things to enter like posting a funny meme or video makes it more interesting in my opinion.

Then on that logic it then becomes a gold "Competition"

I agree with this post, but if I were to host a giveaway I think the only thing I would ask for is a reason why they deserve it. I would want to gift to active people looking for gold, and of course I would gift outside of a giveaway, but if it is a giveaway I am saying I would rather give it to someone who entered and deserves it. If that makes sense. I wouldn't be doing it for the badge, that would be pointless to me.
