Honestly any laptop with decent RAM, memory, ect. would be good. You also need decent internet to transfer files over FTP/neighborhood.

If your laptop is having trouble opening things, try updating your.NET framework.

Also, if you don't have any anti-virus software you probably have some malicious programs or adware that could be slowing you down. If you intend to use it just for modding (And don't have any files you'll need) You could format the harddrive, reinstall your OS, and you should end up with a faster computer. Check how many programs you have installed.

You really don't need anything more than 4GB RAM.
