It all depends on what software is required on the course you are taking. I'm not sure how it works in the US but maybe send an email to one of your teachers/mentors/someone at the college asking what software you will be using over the next coming years. As you find some times that one certain operating system is needed for a specific programming language. If the software is compatible on both OS's, try and go to an Apple Store or PC world, and try the laptops there, and ask the staff at the store which one is better (at the PC world, not the apple store as they will most likely be quite biased :L )

Good Luck!

It all depends. I've been with Mac for years and years. I am currently using an iMac and have an older Pro. But for school, in order to get the specs I wanted (i7, 16bg RAM, 4gb graphics card *not for gaming*) in a Mac, if it was even possible, would cost me an arm and a leg.

I got the Lenovo y50 and it has all the above and plus some. And didnt even pay close to a higher end Pro.

Not sure if these people read your major but for a comp sci major I would definitely go with a windows. It would work so much better with what you will be programming unless you're programming for mac then by all means get the mac!

In all honesty, being a Microsoft lover, I'd go with a Mac, considering you're just using it for work (assuming you're wanting to succeed in college)

PC For Gaming, Mac For Work.

I have a Macbook air and I love it. It is my go to computer whenever I am doing work for college. Windows or Mac OS X will both get the job done perfectly fine for school work so go with whatever you prefer.

Although if I were to go with a windows computer I would probably go with this one: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Im not really planning on gaming a lot with it if i am it would be very simple games that virtually any laptop im pretty sure can run. The thing that I have been struggling with is the OS. I have never used a Mac that much before and I have always been a PC kid throughout my life. but the software ill just pirate for the most part so that doesn't matter to me really.

I've had to use a Mac daily for a media class I was in, I hated the OS. I thought it would be "easier", but everything was so confusing and different from a PC.

Honestly, software wise, PC is better than Mac. PC has a better version of Office, much more productivity tools, and almost everyone who designs PC software essentially designs for PC first, Mac a very distant second. Fundamentally speaking, if you want a computer for school, get a PC. It's much better regarding work than a Mac ever will be. There's a reason why every office uses PCs and not Macs.

I agree with you on every aspect of what you said basically. Its just what im trying to decide now if specs should over come OS. Like since im going in as a student I can get the macbook pro with better spec and cheaper than the Zenbook. Idk why the zenbook is so pricey still.
