Here goes the downvotes, but does it really matter?

People make jokes about babies, the Holocaust, the Crusades, terrorism (hell even 911), and almost everything bad imaginable.

Why don't people say anything? Because they realize that it's a joke and the person making it isn't serious. If anyone who ever joked about illnesses were banned from the internet, I'm guessing roughly 90% of the internet would be banned already.

I don't now how making jokes about cancer and the 9/11 can be funny.

Stop getting butt hurt over it. Ranting about this isn't going to help your problems, deal with it.

It doesn't really bother me, they're just words on a screen.

It all comes down to what your sense of humour is like, and most of the time who it is around you. I obviously wouldn't tell a nun a sick joke, but my and my best friends bounce them off each other daily. If you're uptight about words, then you're taking things too seriously in my opinion.

If you take a step back and realise the fact is no matter how sick its still a joke then I don't see any need to be offended. But then again some people's skin is thicker than others

People that joke around things like that do with intention to be sick. You can not make a "joke" about the loss of innocent lives such as the 9/11.

You can. It's called dark comedy, or 'distasteful' if you're a prude.
Frankie Boyle essentially became famous because he made jokes about serious situations.

OP, While I realize it's just a joke, I will still laugh at jokes about cancer, autism, or anything else for that matter if the joke is funny.
Saying 'This post gave me cancer' isn't funny, so I wouldn't laugh at it. But I wouldn't say the person is horrible just because they tried to make a joke out of serious subject matter.
This isn't to say that people don't know the joke is wrong though. In any comedy show where the comedian makes a dark joke, the crowd will always go 'Hahahaha... ooooooooooh' and groan at how horrible the joke is.

People aren't going to be desensitized to horrible situations by some dark jokes.

Never laughed at these 'dark' jokes, and never will. If it could offend/upset someone else then it doesn't amuse me. It's just a distasteful, ignorant, and cheap attempt at comedy that isn't and never will be funny.

Yes I guess you can say there is a time and a place when jokes like that are suitable such as when your with close friends that you know won't be offended we all make jokes like this or at least to my knowledge. But education doesn't come into this at all mate. How do you know even the brightest brains dont make jokes like this.
