I have a AMD Athlon x4 635 @2.9ghz
I was thinking about getting a r9 270x, but my friend has a gtx 660 that he would sell to me for $80
Im thinking about getting the 660 because im getting it cheap as hell and i dont think that there is a huge improvement over the r9 270x.

I'd get the R9 270 as that isn't much worse than the 270X and will be cheaper. The GTX660 is a good card but the R9 270 will be better and you might aswell get it for that reason.
But if you really want the 660 then get it, it won't be a deal breaker.
