A millionaire trader turned the tables on a hacker who demanded $20,000 (12,000) - by placing a bitcoin bounty on the fraudster's head.
Roger Ver, known as The Bitcoin Jesus after investing early in the soaring digital currency, received a threatening message from a hacker known as Nitrous.
The hacker had taken control of one of Mr Ver's old Hotmail email accounts and used it to obtain detailed personal information including his Social Security number.
He threatened to exploit the information unless Mr Ver gave him 37 bitcoins, equivalent to $20,000.
But Mr Ver turned the tables by offering a $20,000 bounty on Facebook for information leading to Nitrous' arrest.
The hacker immediately backed down.
