I got the code for a copy of Watch Dogs with my GTX 760. I see I had to register through uplay (ubisofts client). Will I only be able to play the game through uplay? Will I not be able to connect to people that are playing on steam?

You will be able to play with people who brought it on steam also as the steam client will just boot up Uplay and load the game through that.

You only need uplay to be installed on your system

So will the game be counted as a non-steam game or no? Like will I be able to unlock steam achievements and the time played will add up to my steam account?

It will still count in steam, uplay just requires to be logged in as its a Ubisoft production

The game will launch from UPlay. If you want to play with your Steam friends, you'll need to add them on UPlay first. This is the same for most of UPlay games.
