just as the title says...what are some advantages? what are some disadvantages? Thanks ahead of time!!

yes...I would also unlock bootloader. with root only you can install many root applications such as xposed framework for modifying your phone. for unlocked bootloader you can install custom roms such as cyanogenmod
hmm....only disadvantage I can think of is you void your warranty and if you dont back up your stock rom before installing a new rom you are f*cked lol
