I hate my current case... I have been thinking recently about building my own case from scratch. I know it will be a lengthy process but I may be able to do it for next years A level Product Design work.
I have been looking at something around the same size as a Corsair 750D because I plan to one day go with an open loop cooler.
I was looking at a nice large window.
Here is something I mocked up in about 10 mins.
It just has a few of the main hardware in so there is a size perspective.

Not bad, if it all works out, you can build me one and we can burn our cases to the ground

I would have the Front panel ports on the top, I think on the front, it should just be your power & reset buttons. BUT its your design, do what ever you want ^^

Maybe add a basement down the bottom for a 360 rad?

You thinking of putting fans on the front or leaving them off?

Was a quick mock up, I would like 2 fans on the front panel. With the ports etc, I plan on making a new desk and having it on the desk in all of its glory, so having them on the front will be useful. Especially that the mock up came to around 53cm tall.
A basement for a rad would be good actually and wouldn't be hard to implement.
I plan on having it about 28cm Wide so I can have 3cm of cable management routing options and there will be lots of gromets.
For HDD cages, I could see if I can buy some from ebay that are tool less from like a Fractal case.
The only problem is that I need to get the go ahead from school...

I think it's a good idea, and also that creation in whatever program that was looks pretty cool.

Updated the size of it and made it a tad smaller. Where the bottom of the window is, from there down will be a basement for a rad and the PSU to go in. I could fit a rad up the top as well which is what I may do.

Nice idea. Never thought of this myself but would be really cool to have a case which you made yourself. You should and do a walkthrough thread so everyone can see how it's going, if you do go trough with it.

I am going to try my hardest to let school allow me do this, if not then it's gonna be a home job.
I just have countless things that I can add to it. I have just made some feet for the case so it is off of the ground, the only thing I may have a problem with is the front panel connectors. But I may be lucky enough to be able to shoot Corsair an email and purchase some from a 750/900D for mine.
But it is something that I can be very proud of and it will be fully unique. And if school lets me, count towards an A level. so it's a win win.

Added the fan positioning, PSU and some feet. Also wnt with an SLI for the EVGA GTX 780 Ti's and it looks super. Definitely getting there and I think the sizing is around the right place. big enough for open loop but not too small or too big. It does however lean more towards a full tower, but i'm fine with that.

If it was me and I had to go it from home i would highly suggest you go over the details properly to make sure you can do it. For example folding the steel (presumably) for the actually chassis, designing some way of strengthening the case and how you will obtain and cut thick enough metal.

If you can either get permission to borrow the equipment they use for metalwork, if they have any then go ahead. Otherwise you might find it better to buy a 750D and totally mod it. Buy a drill, a dremel and a rivet gun and you can cut away and move stuff as you please.

We have the stuff at school and I also have most of it at home, as for strengthening was thinking of an X shaped beam about 2/3mm thick of steel plate running down the back panel and possibly up the front and rear of the case.
