As of today (2/28/14 US Date), Valve's "Family Sharing" option is now open. This allows two Steam users who are "Family" (Gaben knows what we're really doing, thank you Valve) to share a common Steam Library while having their own different save data and achievements unlocked.

How to share with "Family"
You'll need to be signed in on the device you want to allow sharing to. Meaning if you're sharing with a Friend you'll need to have your account logged on to their Computer.

Navigate to the "Settings" option in Steam.

Find the "Family" tab

Now simply click the "Authorize this Computer" button and sign out of your account, and have your "Family" sign in to their account. The deed should be done.

If you have any other questions just send me a PM or Gold members can add me and use the Instant messaging feature. Thanks :nyancat:

Unfortunately not, the shared game Library can only be used by one member at a time. Hopefully something like this could be implemented in the future though.

Alright, I'm getting a bit confused by this.

How would I go about sharing my library (and vice versa) with a friend?

Follow the steps shown in the "How To" section of the post. If you are signed in to your account on your friends computer and follow those steps, their computer will be able to access your Game Library via Steam's cloud

There is currently no way to do this wireless by the way, you will have to be on their computer, or you could use something like Teamviewer. I may post an in depth tutorial on using that method later.

Wait, so we can't just swap passwords and authorize each other's PCs? That's what I thought the steps pretty much were.

Yes, You can do this too if you wish to. You will need to sign in as your friend with the info they give you on your PC and authorize your computer to use their library. Be warned though. I HIGHLY recommend not doing this unless you highly trust your friend. I would change my password afterwards aswell.

My Method included physically being on your friends computer in some way or another, as it is probably safer, but yeah that should work fine.

tl;dr Yes you can do that

Yep, I swapped with one of my friends from school. It works! I assume if we both own the same game we can play it at the same time?

Yes you can still do this, if the game is owned by both of you.
Example: If you both own Borderlands 2 and neither of you is using the shared library, you can both play the game at the same time.
