So, earlier today, the normal routine was occurring. Announcements, pledge, moment of silence. For the past 2 weeks this girl behind me has refused to stand up for the pledge AND be quiet for a good 5 seconds. I mean, she even got referred to the office for Christ's sake. It may just be me, but that happens to extremely piss me off. I mean, sure you got freedom of speech, religion, and such, but at least have the decency and respect to honor your flag and the people who have died protecting you. What are you guys' thoughts?

She should be quiet for the moment of silence just to show respect for everyone in that room. As for standing for the pledge, that is her choice. Either you're patriotic or you're not. I'm sure she has said it and been through it enough.

When I used to say it, I never felt like I was showing respect to soldiers or the country. It is too forced. If I wasn't an alliance to the flag of the United States of America, I would happily move. Saying it proves nothing. Standing for it proves nothing.

She probably just has her reasons and should be respected. She should be respectful to those in the room, though, with the moment of silence.

Do you have to do this every day? I find this really odd, it's the sort of thing you hear about in Korea not America :S I dunno, maybe us Brits are just more secure in being Patriotic (That's a joke btw... )

I mean if she doesn't believe in america than I guess she doesn't have to do the pledge but not being quiet during the moment of silence is infringing on everyone else's rights. Personally I believe that, that isn't right.

If you don't AT LEAST stand, you're not American. It pisses me off so much. Usually it's the potheads and the wannabe gangsters that don't stand at my school.

I take my hand off of my heart when under god is said, that does NOT need to be in the pledge of allegiance. I do not stand for a moment of silence either, being silent isn't really honoring anything. I'd rather do something that has a little more meaning that just systematically shutting my mouth.

I only stand for the silence, not for the pledge, say what you want, but its a choice to say it, but for the moment of silence, ill still stand for it.
