Three guys split a pizza for lunch.
They each pitch in $10 for their share, for a total of $30 spent on the pizza. The waitress returns to tell the three men that they have over paid for the pizza, because it only cost $25. The three men ask the waitress to give them each back a dollar, and she can keep the remaining two dollars.
Each man paid $9, which totals $27. The waitress kept $2, which brings the total to $29.
Where did the other dollar go?

Each man started with $10 = $30
Waitress bring back the $5 - $25 + $5 = $30
She splits the $5 - each man $1 and herself $2, still = $30
Each man pays $9 is the trick part, Each man paid 9$ but still have $1 each leftover which = $30
The $2 the waitress gets is included in the $27 that the men pay for the food because they all have $1 left which brings the total to $30.
