Scientists in the city of Edfu, Egypt have uncovered one of seven so called "provincial" pyramids around Egypt in major cities.

What do you think? I find it puzzling that the pyramid is that old! It makes you wonder what other structures await being discovered that could be even older!

It's not too surprising that they're finding older pyramids than the Giza ones.
They didn't get the Giza pyramids right first try, they used trial and error.
Some pyramids still standing today are wonky, go in to the point too steeply, or are uneven.

The Pyramid of Djoser is apparently the oldest one they've found so far, built at around the same time as this one, but apparently this one predates it slightly.

Just makes you think if they're going to find another one predating this.

Great article, that's impressing what they built.

I wonder what other structures they'll discover next.

Is it possible that these smaller pyramids were simply case studies or proof of concepts like a scale model in order to prepare for larger ones? My grandfather did some excavating in Egypt but I never got a chance to sit and chat with him about it before he passed away so it left a huge opportunity missed to learn more about this period.
