Just wondering how long 16gb of ram will last for before I need to upgrade it?

Its overkill for gaming. You only need 8GB. Games are starting to recommend 8GB, so there is no need for 16GB. For gaming games won't even use over 8GB so i'd just stick with 8GB, that will last you a long time.

The amount of RAM doesn't mean anything when you think of how long the technology will last. We're on DDR3 right now and DDR4 is the next step we'll probably see sometime in 2014. The first iteration of DDR4 we see will probably be as quick as the higher end DDR3 now so i'd wait a while. That along with the fact you'd need a system that supports DDR4.
