what are bitcoins, ive read wiki and all but its confusing still, and why am i just now hearing about them?

They weren't popular until recently. They became popular because it was a safer currency to use in sketchy markets. They are most popularly used to purchase illicit goods.

Its money that can't be traced back to you... In theory it never leaves a money trail so you can buy whatever you want without anyone knowing.

ok i get that but then again i've never heard of them until last week then everyday this week ive seen something about bitcoins, its weird, could you tell me what this twitter [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] is about, "The average price of bitcoin on all exchanges is now 1100.71 USD" does this mean exactly?

Bitcoins can change price every now and then. Bitcoins can sometimes be an investment. People buy them for $1,000 for example. Then maybe wait for the price to go up to 1,010 for example and profit. So it is like a stock in a way. Others use Bitcoin for the anonymous aspect of it because it is basically untraceable.

okay im getting it a lot better, but how much would 1 bitcoin be? also what is mining? and why would you need a good PC to do it?
