Oops, my bad for not reading your post clearly! But yes, it is most certainly possible for your parents to charge you with arson. But I'm not entirely sure. :S

Thanks man, but another question I have is can the fire department charge me with arson, or do my parents?
Considering you're a minor, the charges will go towards your parents, not you. Also, seeing as you burned down your parents garage; you can't really be charged for a crime as it's owned by your parents and not anybody elses' that can press charges against you.

Yes, it is entirely possible to be charged with arson, an good lawyer could potentially save you from being entirely charged with felony.

I don't think you understood the question
Since I burned the side of my parent's garage, are they the ones who can decide to charge me with arson? (The fire marshal said that the Fire Department can charge me)

To answer your question, I dont think so. Since youre not a legal adult and it wasnt your property, the fire department cant charge you. It would have to be your parents because youre no over 18. I may be wrong. But thats what I think.

Limes wrote So, about a week ago I was burning things in my backyard, and when I went to put out the stick, some of the ash resparked and ended up catching my garage on fire. It wasn't a big fire, and the fire department came. The Fire Inspector came and said that if I didn't write a three page paper over what I learned, I could be charged with arson.

After they left, I went inside and googled what arson was, and the definition said, "Arson[1] is the crime of intentionally and maliciously setting fire to buildings, wildland areas,[2] vehicles [3][4] or other property with the intent to cause damage. It may be distinguished from other causes such as spontaneous combustion and natural wildfires. Arson often involves fires deliberately set to the property of another or to one's own property as to collect insurance compensation.[5]"

I didn't mean to set it on fire, and clearly it's not for insurance compensation because I have to pay for everything.

*Main point of this topic: Can they really charge me with arson?

+Rep to best answers.

This is a difficult question to answer, how old are you?

I'm 17. Sorry, forgot to put that in there
