About two months ago, an attempt surfaced within a school in my county. The attempt was to make a class, which would be an elective, that consisted of the teaching of how the Bible influenced history and literature. Yes, with it being elective, students and parents have a choice whether or not it's suitable to take or not. So, they do have the choice to not partake in the class, and thus it not being forced onto them.

But the verdict of the class was shot down, but barley. It had a verdict of 3-3. But it just so happens to hit the local news again. Apparently the same people that voted for it, are pushing for it again.

Now, my standpoint on this issue would be that I would have to vote "no". I feel as though it doesn't need to be brought back into schools, we're managing fine without it. With the creation of this class, will bring a slue of other retaliation from dis-believers, parents, etc.

Of course this is in the "Rant" section, so my rant has to be. Why create a class that will spark a retaliation? It's bound to happen, due to not everyone believing in the Bible. I also feel as though, if they can have a Bible class, in all fairness they should create classes that covers all religions, such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Satanism etc.

After hearing about it for the second time, it brought up some past rage that I had the first go around. We're in the world now, where you can't single a certain group out, otherwise other groups will be offended and stir up even more hatred.

Good point. I myself am an agnostic and dont believe in the bible but i believe that anyone can chose what they believe in and what they dont. I say they should bring that class into the school and let the kids decide if they want to take it or not. But in addition bring in a class to teach about other religions as well. No matter what they do it will start conflicts.

You don't have to be religious to benefit from learning about religion. You may as well oppose the teaching of world history classes because religion plays such an important role in culture. Being opposed to a religion class is just as ridiculous as someone who doesn't believe in evolution opposing including the theory of evolution in curriculum. It doesn't matter if you believe; it's important to learn about these things.

Very well said r00t.

Bringing up a key point here, "Bible Study" does not mean "Christianity" there are other forms of Religion which use the term "Bible."

Another thing is why would it be centered around "studying" the Bible?
Why have it only studying it word for word when you can learn how it affected the world.

Example:
Such as how the Romans were affected by Christianity spreading.

A dedicated Bible class seems odd, but I have no problem with religious classes until they claim truth.

I had a teacher who was an orthodox Christian and she would rant at you whenever you disagreed with the Bible or even said god's name in vain.
