Payday 2

Welcome to my Payday 2 guide. This guide will include the basic things you need to know about this game. Feedback is very much appreciated.

Main Menu

Crime.net

The central station for all your heists! Crime.net will show you available heists, what difficulty they are, job they are and who wants it done! You can also filter crime.net to show available games from close to you to all around the world!

Crime.net (offline)

Pretty much what it says. Crime.net Offline is Singleplayer. Make sure you know what you are doing before you jump into the big heists; you only have two AI with you instead of three. Singleplayer is difficult, remember that.

Safehouse

Your house of everything that you need, this place keeps your money, weapons and masks and also aids you in practice with lockpicking doors, drilling vaults and weapon range and power. It also has a rack that shows you all your weapons and masks on display and when you are ready to leave just click [F] or whatever bound button on the laptop down the stairs beneath lady justice.

Skills

Here you will see all four skill trees! They are: Mastermind, Enforcer, Technician and Ghost. Their names imply what they do, but I will get into that later. Here you can buy into skill trees, buy skills and ace skills! Remember to choose wisely as it is a big risk to respec trees. Choose what will aid you mostly when playing! Choose what fits your playing style! But if you are playing with a team, remember to also choose what might help them too!

Inventory

Here is your inventory. This will show you your weapons, masks, gadget/bags and will let you choose your character. Weapons unlock as you level up and masks drop when completing heists (if youre lucky.) Gadgets/bags can be unlocked through skill trees and your character selection iswell what is says! This is also where you buy your weapons and attachments. They are costly, so choose wisely.

Options

I dont really need to explain this much. Just find what options fit your computer and have fun!

Gamehub

The Gamehub for the game. It is the centre of the community and is where you can discuss anything about PAYDAY 2 with people from all over the community and the world.
Latest news: The latest news and updates from Almir, Bo and other OVERKILL developers!

Basics

Difficulties/Risks Levels

The difficulties are: Normal, Hard, Very Hard and Overkill. From hard and up you get little yellow skulls which are your risk levels. The higher the risk level, the more experience, but the harder the enemies! For new players, I definitely recommend normal. When you are ready, try some hard and very hard. Overkill is a different story. As the name suggests, you should probably practice before you attempt overkill heists, especially multi-day heists.

Offshore Account

An offshore account is where 95% of money goes. It is is basically your retirement money and so far it does nothing...In the future it will probably contribute to your safe house and maybe... even a secret.

Pre-heist plan

This is where you and your team party up and can see each others armour and masks. You can buy your guns and craft attachments and masks like normal. After choosing a contract (a heist) you can move onto Bains plan! He will tell you what to do and what you are getting yourselves into and then you can choose weapons, items, armour and then ready up!

Assets

Assets are things you can buy to help with the heist. The host pays for these! So choose wisely. Mastermind has a skill to reduce the cost of these.

Loadout

This shows you and your teams current weapons, secondary weapons, items and armour before a heist.

Multi-Day Heists

A multi-day heist is a heist where with multiple days. You have to go through each day completing an objective, stealing cash or other objects and then proceeding to the next day. Occasionaly, an 'escape' will happen (see: Escapes at the bottom). If a day is failed on a multi-day heist, you can always retry the day. If it is a pro job multi-day heist, you will lose the entire contract. You gain EXP from each day and get a PAYDAY after you complete the final day.

Health

Your health is the green circle next to your name and weapons/weapon ammo and item count. The small, thin white circle around your health is your shield. When your shield is broken by gunfire, your health will then start to take damage. Your shield will regenerate when you are not being hit.

Stealth/civilians

Stealth is much harder to go into. You will start a heist without your mask (most of the time.) Press whatever button you have assigned it to put on your mask. [Default: G] This will make you suspicious to civilians/guards and pretty much everyone. Blue question marks will appear above peoples heads when they suspect activity happening around them. A red exclamation mark will mean that they have been alerted and you will need to get them down before they call the cops. You can kill them if you wish; this wont break the stealth if you get everybody else down, but it will cost you money. So don't kill civilians unless you can afford it!

Concealability

This is a pretty simple thing. The smaller weapons you have and less armour you are carrying will make your concealability low. This will make people less suspicious.

Assault waves

Assault waves will happen a little bit after the police have been alerted (can be delayed by tying up hostages.) Assault waves will then take breaks every few minutes and start up again. This is where the police officers will stop at nothing to put you in custody. There will be lots of cops. So bunker down behind cover and fire back at them!

Pro Jobs

These jobs will be marked out in red. If you fail this job, it goes away. You lose the contract and it is terminated. This also counts for multi-day pro job heists.

Custody

You will go into custody after being downed three times (this can be reset with a medic bag). In custody you will respawn in about two to three minutes (on normal and hard) and will not respawn unless you are traded out for a tied down civilian during a break in an assault wave (on very hard and overkill.)

Escapes

Sometimes on multi-day heists, the trip to the next day may go wrong. An escape could happen which could involve you and your team having to carry bags across highways and through car parks to a safe van.

Skill Trees

Mastermind

The mastermind behind enemy lines. This tree is basically the SUPPORT tree for you and your teammates. It contains the doctor/medic bag (very important) being able to turn cops to your side to fight for you and other things like stamina increase, civilians reviving you, experience upgrades and special insider man assets.

Enforcer

The brute force of the team. Very simple, it is the ASSAULT tree and destroys everything. It contains the ammo bag (also very important) and the big gun upgrades! If you like shotguns and heavy armour then go with this tree.

Technician

The computer tech and wizard of the team. It has trip mines and sentry guns and loves gadgets. Now, technician may not seem important now, but trip mines can be converted to shaped charges! These allow you to blow open safes within seconds. They are limited, but very good.

Ghost

The stealth class. If you are ready to stealth heists and escape with the money without leaving a clue, then choose this class! It has an ECM jammer which can jam cameras, lockpicking safes (faster than using drills) and many other things! The ghost tree also can bag corpses and throw them away (very useful.)

Weapons

Im not going to go into any extreme detail, but here are vital things you should probably know before going in all guns blazing.

Assault Rifles Good for any team member!

Pistols If you are a mastermind, these are for you! The mastermind has many skills that can contribute to making pistols really powerful, fast and good!

SMGs (sub machine guns) These are for the ghost class, pretty much the same as mastermind, skills that can contribute.

Shotguns Like the other two but with enforcer! These will become very powerful after buying and acing many skills on the enforcer tree.

Single Shot weapons Like the M308 and other semi-automatic weapons. These are perfect for Technician as they get a boost in this.

Cops, Enemies, Specials

Cops

Your enemies. There are different types of cops.

Normal police officers/Tier 2 officers

Not that big of a threat but they will still harm you.

Swat
These guys are harmful. They will take down your shield fast and damage you directly.

FBI Tier 1
Easy to kill, but have strong damage against you. Be wary of these guys. They are wearing green.

Heavy-FBI Tier 2
These guys are bad! They are tough, AIM FOR THE HEAD!!! They will down you very quickly at a low level. They are very commonly found on very hard and overkill!

Snipers
Snipers will do a lot of damage, so be careful. They are usually hiding in buildings. Mark them out with [F] and aim for their head!

Specials

There are more than just cops lurking out there!

Shields
Very common, they carry a giant shield that cant be pierced. Get behind them or flank them and take them out. They are weak in health however.

Tasers
These guys wear blue suits and have big blue/black helmets. If they get near you they will tase you which will cause you to shoot uncontrollably and empty your mag. They will down you with the tase if nobody helps you.

Cloakers
Dangerous enemies these guys are. They will down you in ONE hit! They will run at you and down you straight awaythey are also known to travel in packs. Be careful.
NOTE: They are currently not in the game because of bugs and errors. Overkill have adressed this and are working on it. They will be added later in a future update.

Bulldozers
Found on harder difficulties most of the time, the tanks of the police, the hardest to killthe biggest threat. They walk around in huge EOD suits and will down you in one hit if they can get a clear shot. They carry powerful shotguns and have incredibly strong armour. AIM for their face! Destroy their visor and kill them.

Tips

Suppressing enemies
Firing at the direction of cops will supress them, they will most likely more than half the time not fire back.

Delaying assault waves
Delaying assault waves can be done by tying up hostages. Tie up as many as you can. The mastermind has a skill on the first tier that allows you to carry 5 cable ties.

Use medic bags and ammo bags wisely
You will go into custody after your third down (your screen will become grey and dull with colour.) Use medic bags after your third or second down to save use!

FAQ

Can I play any character I want with any skill tree I want?
Yes you can. You can play as any character and any skill tree you want. So for example, you can play as Dallas, but be a technician. So go for it! I am currently Wolf as a Mastermind!

Intimidating Guards/Police?
This is a skill to be learnt by the Mastermind. Particually the "Dominator" skill. In PAYDAY: The Heist you could do this at any time, but not this time. You also need to ACE "Dominator" if you want to be more intimidating.

Are there any tutorials apart from the Safehouse?
No there isn't.

Can I upgrade all skill trees?
Nope, sorry. Afraid you can't. This is where the RPG elements come into play. You have to make choices as you will only have 120 skill points by the time when you reach the final level. You must make wise decisions and choose carefully.

Lobbies? People kicking me? Why?
I hate to say this, but there are always those few people in gaming communites who want to spoil the fun for other people. A lot of the time people will kick you for no reason, I'm sorry about this but these guys are just party poopers. I really recommend hosting your own game. You can set it to:
"Public" - Anyone can join.
"Friend's Only" - Only friends can join.
"Private" - Invite only. No one can join unless you invite them from the invite system built in Steam.

What is the Offshore Account for?
An offshore account is where 95% of money goes. It is is basically your retirement money and so far it does nothing...In the future it will probably contribute to your safe house and maybe even a secret.

Overkill Stealth Guide - Solo

Equipment and Visibility:
First things first, you dont need full body armor when doing a mission stealthily, and you dont need to take powerful guns with you either, just a silenced pistol will do the job best and you shouldnt even need to reload it throughout the mission. Just take the suit you start with as it has the lowest visibility and makes your heist seem a bit more classy. I personally get on fine with a visibility of just below midway through the middle bar. So its possible to get away with having medium visibility but you just cant walk too close to the guards or they will spot you instantly and you will most likely lose all element of stealth. For best results you cant go much safer than having a low visibility.

Some guns have a lower visibility than others, and this is espescially important for your primary weapon. Attachments on guns add to their visibility so if you have some already on your primary then take them all off. For your secondary however, take a pistol with low visibility and attach a silencer, even though this adds to your overall visibility, the help it gives you is far more valuable as you will need it to take down guards.

Skill Points:

When doing a heist solo, its best to have skills from both the Mastermind skill tree and the Ghost skill tree. The ECM jammer from the Ghost tree can can provide you with extra security for getting past a camera or stopping anyone in the area making calls for a period of time until you get the civilians under control. Meanwhile the ability to yell at police to make them surrender, along with the perk of extra cable ties, will also prove valuable for reducing the chance of you getting discovered and the police being alerted.

In addition to this i personally went for perks that aided my stealth or increased the value to the loot items i would pick up from deposit boxes or display cases. I picked perks that allowed me to move faster while crouching or to seem less suspicious to civilians. I also unlocked one skill from the Enforcer tree called "Transporter" which allows you to move faster while carrying bags and also throw them further.

Big Oil Guide

Step 1: Day 1
You have to go in silent or very fast, if you don't, they will burn the intel.
If you fail, and they do burn them, you can continue the heist, but it makes Day 2 harder to finish. The most important target, the intel, is in a safe. I recommend a safe lock picking skill or shaped charge skill to get the safe door open faster.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Step 2: Day 2 - Find the server room
Okey, now we come to the difficult part, figuring out what the right engine is.
First of all you have to find the server room. There are three rooms where the servers can randomly spawn. One of them is visible from the outside, if you have a good eye and a lucky spawn you can spot it. If it isn't the one visible from the outside, you know that there are two more possible rooms to drill into. Find the server room, overrid the data and open the lab door.

I really recommend that you go silent, that way you have no cops to shoot you and you can be more focused on finding the right engine.

Step 3: Solve the Puzzle and find the right Engine
You are so close to finishing now! There's a whiteboard in the lab that shows you what color gascan each of the gasses will be. You now have to search for two clipboards. (They spawn randomly, sometimes in the lab, sometimes you have to search about the house.)

One clipboard shows us what gascan we have to use, in our case, it is Helium.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now we go back to the table and there we can read that Helium is a green can.
So our engine must have a green gascan.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

The second clipboard shows us how many cables are going to the Hydrogen can.
The Hydrogen is ALWAYS the color blue. blue.
In our case there stands 3x H. What means we have to search for a hydrogencan with 3 cables. In our case the clipboard says 3x H. This means that we have to search for a Hydrogen can with three cables, the cables are random, so for instance, the clipboard could say 2x H, which would mean you would have to search for a Hydrogen can with two cables.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Okey, we already know that our engine must have a green gas can and a Hydrogen can with three cables. But we have to know what pressure our engine has.
You have to search for a computer in the lab, on it shows the pressure in psi (pounds/square inch).

In our case it says <5812 psi. You now have to convert the psi into Bar, because we can only see Bar on the engine. If you don't know how to calculate psi into Bar, let Google do the work for you ;) 5812 psi is ~ 400 Bar. <5812 psi means lesser than 5812 psi, so smaller than 400 Bar.

(This picture does not fit with the screen on this heist, it's from another heist)

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Our Engine must have a pressure under 400 bar!

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

We found the right engine! We know the color of the gas can, how many cables lead from the Hydrogen can and how much bar it has. There is only one engine which meets all the requirements. Now bag the engine and go to the Airfield.

Step 4: The Escape
This last part might be the hardest yet. After throwing the bag into the chopper, the police are on their way. You can't circumvent that! They come from all sides, and you need a place to take cover. The moat area near the airplane is a great place for camping. After you get the confirmation that you gave the right engine, you can escape with the airplane (if you found the keys on the table in day 1) or you can escape with the chopper.
