I don't think router or a different modem would help try upgrading you Internet plan.

Your internet speed is determined by how much bandwidth you pay for from your ISP. For example I pay $30 a month for a downstream of 30mbps and an upstream speed of 4mbps. I am also guaranteed this speed on any 6 devices connected simultaneously. You cannot get a higher speed than what you pay for on your contract.

What service do you use? I have to pay 70 dollars a month just to get 30mb/s download speed, I recently got mine shut off and have to use my neighbors wifi just to be online because I'm 200$ in the hole with my plan so they took my router.

Now sometimes your router position, or how many devices being used can effect your Internet speed.

Your service plan is what mainly gives you your speed, though.

Meaning you pay $x for x/mbs

If you want faster internet, you need an upgraded package.

Try to move your router to an open area, and try connecting only devices that are being used at the time.

It comes from your internet service provider (ISP) , if you would like faster internet speeds you'll have to contact them to upgrade or go to a different provider.

If you are going to switch , I would go with Verizon !

And use a wired connection whenever possible. Wired connections will ALWAYS outperform any wireless connection in speed and stability. The only devices I use wifi on are my iPhone and my laptop, because neither of those devices are accessible via a wired connection (my laptops ethernet port is broken.) Another thing that can affect your speed is if the connection to your modem/router is split by a splitter.
