I have previously made a post on this however, that was quite a while back now. This topic is only my theory on the Ranking System, I am not saying that it is right but I am not saying it is wrong.
There are 5 ranks.
Ranks:
1 Bone
2 Bones
Skull
Skull with Knife
Skull with 2 Shotguns
I think the main factor of the ranking system is k/d (kills/downs) however things like time played and kills are also very important. The more kills you have, the lower the k/d you will need, for example, my friend has over 250,000 kills and he got the knife rank at a 68 k/d where as I got my knife rank at just under 30,000 kills with a 150 k/d. You can not give an exact k/d requirement on the rank however, you can give a time played requirement. Another key factor is consistency, if you do good one game then the next have say 20 downs your rank will go down.
Like XBOXJosh said it's based on your co-op stats, not career (so turned and grief doesn't count)

Alot of people say it's the KD method but that is proven right, and wrong in a lot of cases.
I just got the knife yesterday with a 180-ish KD and 24000 kills. I then lost it the next game, and then got it back the game after that.
I think the best way to rank up in zombies is to just play well, and it will come, in due time.
I really wish Treyarch would just explain it clearly to knock out all these theories.

Consistency, that's what I forgot to mention. I think that also is another factor.

EVER SINCE THE UPDATE ITS TO DO WITH - Co-Op Stats - NOT - Career Stats - SO CALCULATE THE RIGHT THING
