Well, I'm American so it doesn't affect me but if I did live in the UK I wouldn't care since I don't watch that.

Everybody that has internet in the UK will be asked by their ISP, if they would like a filter to block adult sites, so the teenagers are the one's missing out. If you are responsible for your own internet, you will not be affected. If the parents are responsible, they will most likely get the filter installed.

I highly doubt this will actually happen.

The big issue surrounding this is kids access to porn and the "solution" is to ban all "adult sites"? It just is not practical and will not work. If parents are so worried about their children seeing porn then they should ask their ISP for Family Filtering (which is already an option, but that is just too smart to be done)

Take these sites for example;

  • The Sun (News Website) features Page 3 Topless Girls.
  • reddit.com has various NSFW sections, will it block the sections or the whole site?
  • Online Sex Education sites? Nope - "Adult content", unfortunate if you are trying to learn various important life lessons such as STD prevention or read up on possible issues regarding sexual features.

The fact this has been suggested is completely ridiculous... Opting-In for adult content, well looks like you are a pervy sex addict freak. It will result in discrimination and opens various legal questions about the protection of a users information if they do Opt-In such as Who has access to this "list"? Will this "list" be shared? How well secured will this "list" be?

It doesn't just come down to Porn, however the way that this whole story has been publicised is using Porn as a huge umbrella to cover all the other potential censorship that will happen if this indeed goes into practice.

tl;dr - People who don't know anything about the internet trying to police it and failing.
