Types of jtags:

Xenon: By far the most common jtag out there because it is the cheapest and takes both kvs. But they also are known for getting RROD. It has a 55% failure rate. If you do not have much money and are new to jtags i would recommend a xenon because lots of people have them and can help you out. Also xenons are the oldest xbox 360 generation. Console generation made in 2005.

Zephry: This jtag is a little more expensive than a xenon because it has a HDMI but or else it is the same as a xenon. So it is still pretty easy to get RROD, but only has a 30% failure rate. Good jtag for new jtaggers. Also the oldest xbox 360 generation. Console generation made in 2005.

Opus: This is a very rare jtag, so I would not recommend this for a new jtagger because people would not be able to help you. This jtag is like the Falcon, but does not have a HDMI. I only know 3 people who have one and none of them have any problems with it. So it is a little cheaper. Console generation made in 2007.

Falcon: This is a good jtag in my opinon, but a little more expensive. Many people think it is not that good because it does not take both kv types but a falcon has a slim chance in getting RROD. It has a 11% failure rate. I would recommed this to a more experience jtagger. This is the same as an Opus but it has a HDMI and is much more common. Console generation was made in 2007.

Jasper: Without a doubt this is the best jtag out there. Extremely low chance of getting RROD. I have only heard one person's Jasper failing on them, out of about 75 people. This is the most expensive jtag out there, so if you have the money I would recommend getting this jtag. You should probabley be a more experience jtagger to buy this but if you are a new jtagger you would probabley be fine. Console generation was made in 2008.

What you should know before buying kvs and what they do:

A Keyvault is the part of an Xbox 360 that makes each console different. It is the part of the Xbox that Microsoft uses to identify which console is connecting to their servers. There are specific details located inside the Keyvault that makes it so important, one of the main details located in the keyvault is the serial number.

The reason Keyvaults are so important to JTAG's is because you can use them to unban your console. You can swap a keyvault from another unbanned JTAG into your JTAG and then your box magically becomes a different console according to Microsoft.

When a Keyvault gets banned, it doesn't ban just the console, it bans the Keyvault, which means every console using that Keyvault becomes banned.

What an unshared kv is:

An unshared kv refers to a Keyvault dedicated to just your console. This means no one else has your Keyvault to use, only you do. The benefit of this is you can control when it is "booted".

The Keyvault lasts about 4 hours before Microsoft can detect your Xbox is running unsigned code and ban your Keyvault. So with an unshared you determine when that 4 hours start. You could keep the Keyvault for days before launching it and it would still work.

Because of the flexibility of boot time and the dedication of selling an entire Keyvault to just one person, an Unshared KV costs a substantial amount more then a Shared Keyvault.

What a shared kv is:

A shared kv is a kv is is distributed between multiple people for use at the same time. Kv sellers can sell a shared kv to multiple people, the price drops a lot.
