If all these reports/rumors like it said on the front page that the console will be 499$ and 299$ with a 10$ monthly subscription fee. Does that mean Xbox Live will finally be free to compete with Sony and Xbox fans can finally say they can play online for free too? I just don't see how it could be possible to pay a 10$ plus a 50$ Year subscription. The only way I see the 10$ monthly fee being used is to make it keep you playing on Xbox Live and if you buy the 500$ console you wont have to pay for Xbox Live ever. Hence why the Ps3 was such a higher price at launch than the Xbox 360 and Sony didn't charge for online play since the price of the console was already high enough. I could see that being the same way for the NextGen console.

To be honest, I highly doubt they would do that. The price is outrageous if it isn't free though.
The bottom line is, weather anyone else wants to say it or not, Microsoft is just greedy.

I would like it to be free but Micrsoft will never do that in my opinion but I wish they would because the price of the new xbox looks quite high... So for me it looks like a new gaming PC

Everyone here really needs to think business and marketing. This whole forum is filled with kids saying "Oh yeah Xbox Live better be free". But it will not be. Look up the numbers. besides all games, consoles, and hardware, Xbox Live memberships are bringing in serious dough for Microsoft. Why would they let that down? They would not change what they already do. Think business. They are not money whores, if they locked you in from the start, why would they let go of you? How are they money whores if they already got you to pay for Xbox Live? Exactly. If they already convinced you to purchase, they will not stop and make things free.

I hope it will be, but as GFX said, Microsoft are a business, and the aim of a business is to earn money, yeah okay they are already making a tonne of money, but that doesn't mean they will stop trying to earn more, but again it doesn't mean they won't make it free. I'm hoping that if the new Xbox Live isn't free then they will at least make the current Live free, that way we don't have to pay for 2 subscriptions, because seriously, who is going to be using the new Xbox exclusively when it first comes out when there are hardly any games for it? If they don't make at least one of their services free, it will be a bad move by Microsoft.

I hope so that will be a big deciding factor for the console war i'm hoping they do what's right and not the normal money hungry company. For example i hate how microsoft requires live to watch netflix...thats rediculous!

The reason why psn has slow servers compared it Xbox Live is because of the amount off accounts that have been made on the PSN server. Just under 60m PS3s have been sold world wide yet there are 78million psn accounts. This slows down the server and why are there so many? Because its free! Xbox live has less numbers than the amount of consoles sold and that how it should be, we have near perfect servers and the only time I can remember it being down was a few weeks ago, not to mention it is one of the most secure online services in the world. Rant Over.
