It bugs me when only with events like this Boston bombing everyone suddenly says things like "prayers to those affected by the bombing". Say all the people saying this WERE religious, why does it take an event like this to get them talking about prayers?

Think about it this way. Why would you tell a healthy person, "hope you get better soon".

It's just what you do, religion or not unless you're a cold or heartless person you feel for the people effected by the events. It's more courteous than religious in my opinion.

So you're saying adding the word prayers to these statements are meaningless? That's my point exactly.

You're getting offended by people saying prayers? Wow.

"Praying" for someone doesn't have to be you religiously praying for someone... You can pray someone will get better. Just because praying is a biblical thing, doesn't mean it always has to be...

The only time to really pray is during a tragedy.

It's just when people feel the need to pray/or say those things. Yes it might be wrong, but people won't feel the need to without a tragedy/reason.
