Im a freshman in high school and im a wide reciever. im Very very good at catching and route running. im decent at blocking, but my 40 yard dash is 5.5 . Will not being so fast affect my chances for being in varsity?

You need to have agility, you dont HAVE to be fast, but it for sure helps. If you are slow but have amazing agility and can shake a Defender, im sure the coach wouldnt mind having you as WR, but you have to be able to catch too...obviously..

My friend was a WR/QB. He was 6'5'' 200 lbs. He was pretty fast and was good at catching and throwing.

Yea but you also need to be coordinated and agile. But as they say speed kills.

Being fast will allow you to get past D-backs and help with yards after catch. Yes you should be fast.

You don't have to be fast in high school. If you plan on running a 4.4 40 time then you'll never make it during high school like no QB is gonna throw 70+ yards in high school but professionals can.

If you run good routes, you'll get open because you aren't just going to run streaks, you'll run curls, posts, drags, etc which won't need speed to burn a corner.

The main point to being a wide receiver is the ability to receive any ball thrown to you. If you are good at being a possession receiver, you can excel as a freshman. Your chances of playing on varsity may not be great but being on JV just means developing into that player you want.
