Okay guys,
Basically over the last two weeks I have been posting on TTG asking about components for my birthday PC that I shall be building around the 18th of April, which is quite near now.

The problem I am having in my head is that I really do not want to break my components with static charge, and I need help on how to really earth it properly.
100% safe, so that I do not damage the components.

Some people have gave me suggestions already but, because i'm a beginner I need to know the best.

- Anti-Static Band?
- No socks?
- Not on carpet?
- Touch the PSU every minute?

Please reply to me as soon as possible, Thanks.

James.

I built mine *without* a static band and nothing got damaged. When you are putting everything together just touch your case to get rid of any potential static and you should be fine. Just make sure to build it on a non-carpet floor like your kitchen for example.

- Anti-Static Band
- No socks
- Not on carpet
- Touch the plugged in PSU every few minutes or so

Follow these and you will 100% fine.

Just buy an anti-static wrist band and attach it to the case, you'll be fine, in most cases nothing would happen if you were to just touch the case at the beginning once and not again through out the build

I built mine with the aid of nothing but I'm experienced building them, you're first time so I recommend buying an anti-static band.

I'd be comfortable building a PC on a carpet with socks on. People hype up the dangers of static electricity and there's very little reason to worry about it. That said, the winter months can result in a lot of static buildup, but if the humidity is normal and you aren't intentionally building up static, you have nothing to worry about. I built my PC wearing socks on a carpet.

I currently live in Spain, which is a country with very high humidity in the winter, and has a lot of dust in the air. Static builds up all the time here, every morning when I touch my car I get a shock. When I built the computer, I didn't have a single problem. The only things I made sure to do was to touch the back of the case a few times, and once the PSU was plugged in and turned on, touched that (pointless really because you don't have an Earth in Spain).

Just take your time and don't get "the buzz" (the rush you get when you've just got something new). If you handle all of the components that have the PCB exposed by the plastic parts, and wash your hands before you handle the CPU I can assure you you'll be absolutely fine.

Be sure to post a few pictures on here when you've finished!
