Making a wierd noise doesn't help describe the situation... You need to explain more.

not sure how to explain it at points its nice and quiet and then all o a sudden it will start to make a crackling noise then it will make a large grinding like noise for about 3-5 seconds and then start crackling again oh forgot to mention it sounds like its coming from front of the computer were the hard drive is and as far as i know its not the fan making the sound as it sounds like its working and sorry im new to this problem

Could be a wiring problem or the Harddrive is defective. Besides that, you are not giving enough details for a definite answer.
