So after making the colosal mistake of buying an Alienware Computer I quickly realized what a piece of **** it is and decided to build my own.

So far I have picked out these pieces and I can't tell if they are fully compatible with one another and could appreciate the help of someone more experienced.

So far:

2x AMD 7970 Sapphire GHz 6gb Edition (Bought)

1x Corsair 1200i 1200w PSU (Bought)

1x Intel i7 3960 Extreme 6 Cores 15mb Cache (Bought)
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

4x 8GB RAM 1600 MHz Not sure what kind (Bought)

1x CoolerMaster Haf X (To be Bought)
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

1x - MB GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UP4 (To be Bought)
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

1x Stock Alienware liquid cooling for CPU

2x Blue Ray/ DVD Optical Drives

K so I think that sums it up, a lot of the parts are recycled from my alienware so I just needed to upgrade some parts and a new case to do it.

So any advice about this build will be greatly appreciated

Socket doesn't match up on that mobo. Have a look at this, with it you will get optimal oc capabilities along with the quad channel memory support. All else looks to be good. One thing though, I know some might not agree and I don't know much about the alienware cooler but I would recommend an h100i from corsair too.

Just asking, what in the world are you using this computer for that made you think a 3960X was a good choice?

When I was younger I use to pick the most expensive parts I could then go to sites likes tomhardware and ask how my build was.

I think he is doing the same thing. Seeing how his cpu and gpus alone cost $2000 lol.

Wow thanks didn't even realize they would be incompatible xD

Also will the cooler fit in the CoolerMaster HafX case?

Thanks

You'll need an LGA 2011 board for that CPU.

Here's a good one: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

As far as case wise, I'd be inclined to go with something like a full Phantom or a fractal design XL.

From what I've heard, the fans in the H100i get very loud, and it doesn't perform as well as higher end air coolers like this one:

Yes, it does fit, but can be a bit tricky to fit it.

Watch from 19 minutes.
