Pretty sure it's real, I deal with chronic depression. It's not fun. Unless I'm being like everyone else and "pretending" I have it for attention.

I hate to see so much illiterate's believing this. If you used google, you'd realize it's a real disease, or else it wouldn't be diagnosed by real doctors.

Actually depression is not a disease, it is a disorder. Scientists have yet to prove that any physical change in the brain can cause depression, though they have proven that depression can cause physical changes. Before you get mad at me, I'm not saying I think depression is fake, I very much believe it is real, but it is very hard to pinpoint exactly what causes it and what its symptoms are.

And to correct you, doctors do know full well the symptoms of depression, the problem especially with men, is that they try to hide any symptoms of depression, try to bottle it in, the symptoms are known, both physical and mental aspects [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

And to correct you for correcting me: Of course some symptoms can be correlated with depression, and some symptoms are common with depression, but it is not concrete. For example, one symptom of depression can be insomnia, but not everybody with depression has insomnia. One symptom of depression can be weight gain, yet another one is weight loss. Therefore it is very difficult to diagnose someone with depression solely based on symptoms because of how individual these symptoms can be, it is not in any way comparable to diagnosing someone with the flu, which has universal symptoms.

Please tell me you are joking right? You do not have to have every single symptom to be diagnosed, symptoms are not just corrilated to depression, years of study and research have found what the symptoms of it are, if you are experiencing multiple symptoms of depression a doctor will be able to diagnose depression, or not. I believe there is also a mental test they can do for it too. Symptoms dont lie, doctors can diagnose depression from the symptoms you present with, its just that not everyone experiences it in the same way, but that doesnt mean the symptoms are unknown, seriously learn what you are on about, ive checked deeply into depression before, the symptoms are very much known and can easily be diagnosed by doctors, the problem is that people feel they dont want to see their doctor about it, they just want it to go away

Actually, I'm sorry, but you really need to do some research before you accuse me of being wrong.

Depression is very hard to diagnose.

Symptoms lie all the time, that's why you have to study to be a doctor, so you can draw appropriate connections from all the information you are given, and you can't just look up a check list of symptoms.

It is most definitely real, I have suffered with it for at least 10 years, I am on anti depressants everyday (200ml sertraline) Funny thing is that some people have a few problems and feel down, they then tell everybody 'I'm depressed' They have no Idea............

It's a very serious problem, I unfortunately suffer from it and it's nothing to joke about. Why would you even make a topic like this?

It's horrible which is why so many of us look for an escape.

There are many forms of escape ..,Some are alot more harmful than others.
