with a backup you can host modded patches (normaly you need a jailbreak ps3 for it). A modder can do it for you if they get your console ID. then they can give you a backup with your ID from the modded patches etc.

backups works on every firmware You just need your console ID and then ask I__HACK___PS here on TTG if he can do a backup for you
