No, you just have to be unique. It will be slow to get big, no doubt, but it's still possible. You just have to be unique and hit a lot of people's interests. Humor is a big way to get over with people. It's not the only way of course, but it's a pretty good way.

It's always possible to become known on Youtube, it just depends on your dedication to working your way up.
