Here's a question that has gone around in my head quite a few times and I do think quite hard about it. The question, I find can be answered in two different ways. From your current perspective now, and one that's a little more complicated. That's what I'm going to explain.

The best way to put it would be looking to yourself in the future and what you would be thinking in the coma. Well that's it really... you don't think in a coma about morals and worries or reality, because it's now a separated world that you don't think about. So when you look forward to the thoughts of your "future self", if you are worrying about what the rest of reality would be like without your consciousness, for example, close friends and family being upset, then you are thinking it wrong.

I hope I've explained that well, although I know that there will be some who struggle to understand the concept. If you do, feel free to ask and I will try to go over it again. So now we can move on.

The next question you need to ask yourself is "what's better"? A virtual or physical reality?

A virtual reality, you are able to control with your mind, you can cancel pain, sadness, anger and be happy all the time. One could argue, that if you can't always be happy, because happiness would just turn into being neutral. I would argue back, that in dreams, you forget what happened very quickly because you have no perspective of time. So if you're comparing it to nothing, blank data, you can always be happy in a dream.

Reality, well, that doesn't need explaining. But for the sake of comparison, we feel sadness, anger, pain, empathy and a lot more things that are horrible all the time.

So, answer with what you like. It would help if you could say which perspectives you're looking at it from and why you're thinking like that.

However, if you don't understand, ask.... no hate.

Well, in order to assume control you would first need to realize you are in a dream. This would be near impossible, in the first place.
But, as soon as you did that, you wouldn't be able to accept what is now your reality as a fake reality so it would be a complete illusion that you would unconsciously create.

Then, perhaps you would somehow achieve a state of enlightenment in which you break free from the Illusion, you break through the metaphorical 4th wall which would take you back to not accepting the fake reality?

Perhaps this would be when you wake up?

We could all be in a coma right now...?

I like your thinking. Also, I have and do remember being able to change my dream while sleeping. I'm not sure quite how it works but parts of my brain must have "linked up" and caused a state where I have been able to do this. Of course, it is easy to think that I was more awake than asleep but I'm fairly confident I was in a deep sleep. It's hard to describe.

It isn't very easy to comprehend everyone being in a coma, but what if only you exists? I'm the only person who really knows I'm real just like you're the only person who knows you're real. I actually made a topic about it if you're interested. https://www.thetechgame.com/Forums/t=4372643.html

Ah, yes, Lucid dreaming.

I think that lucid dreaming would take a different psychological toll on you in a comatose state.
The realization that you are really in a bed paralyzed with little hope of waking up and the realization of your isolation from your family and friends would certainly make one go crazy and probably spin into denial.

Like I've said before, I believe the universe is a reflection of your own individuality, so, in a way only I do exist to me, but I am personified in everything else.
Some would call this a kind of personal Pantheism but it's a little harder to explain than just 'I am the universe'.

My view on metaphysics suggests to me that nothing is actually what most would define as real and is more of a dream construct.
Does this mean that there is some 11 year old controlling us in a higher state of being in his sleep? maybe, but it suggests more that we are individually asleep and this is our dream.

Saying all that however, I view it as more of a pool and that we are a drop in the pool, but that's a much much harder way of explaining it, I just don't want you to think that I think I am the most important thing because I am the universe personified, it goes a lot deeper and is very very hard to explain.

I understand. It also gets very philosophical which is just so hard to explain with words written down.

However, new technology would be the way to go and with investigations and experiments with lucid dreaming, a whole new virtual reality could be created for public use. For example, if you were to stop yourself going into this "dream" state because of your family, friends and everything you know would be left behind, that would be very understandable. But then, what if your family and friends were to do it too and you could socialize in the "dream"? Well, it does get very hard to explain but I'll try.
So if people from reality, other than yourself appeared in your dream, that would mean they can think for themselves and you have no control over them.... therefore, arguments arise and you'll just be the same as you were in reality.
I think that experiments could be done (if the technology existed) on what the person's dreams consisted of if they were told their family and friends would be participating and interlinking with the subject's dream. A simple placebo could fix any problems with that area.

Well that's the thing though, if you are in a coma and you do not know it, wouldn't you think you are just asleep or dreaming? But then you would realize that your dream is maybe longer then usual then this is where you might be able to take control and lucid dream, and be in complete control until you wake up, this is a tough question to answer, would i like to be in a coma or live my life like i do now. Really hard question to answer at the moment but maybe for someone it might be easy..

I can answer yours. As I said in the topic, you don't have a concept of time in dreams... lucid or not.

You just blow my mind man

Really?

I thought that post was an intellectual flop. I regretted it the minute I posted it, haha.

I don't think I'll ever be able to put my view into words, it's just so hard to explain without sounding like a self appointed God, wackjob.
