First off creds to Afrochubman (On 7s, also on TTG) for originally coming up with this idea, I don't think this has been posted on here so I thought I should post it.
We believe that your rank is based on you position relative to others in the world. Now don't think "I'm at the top of my Friends LB, and I'm a lower rank" because all the other leader boards, including deaths/down probably play a role into the ranking. This would also explain why you can get De-ranked after not playing, because other people in the world are playing, therefore getting higher, therefore you will be getting lower.
One thing I am unsure of is what the dashes exactly mean. Since the icons and the dashes seem to be completely separate. Maybe it's your K/D or Revive to death ratio. I will be looking into this more later tonight and hopefully I will be coming back with more answers. If you have anything you wish you share please don't hold back so we can figure this out ;)

On topic: If only it was something this simple. And I can't even begin to imagine how many dashes I would have lol, that would be crazy
