Harris12345 wrote If you go to college and a Get a bachelors degree you go in as an officer , and trust me it's a helluva lot better, there's a lot of perks you gain by doing this, especially the higher pay grade
ya but you could also go into the military and get that college payed off and have the expirience + the payrate for the 4 years

I've wanted to be a Marine ever since I was a child, so I'm sure you can tell what I'd say.
But all of these branches are very respectable anyway you go, much respect you!

I_dont_mod wrote Hey guys, i've been thinking about this for a while, and I want to join the military. But question is what branch should I go into? I have friends in National Guard, I have family in the marines, and my Grandpa served in the navy.

Joining the military is a huge step in life, it is a commitment and one that should not be taken without a great deal of thought and consideration. All branches of the military offer something to the individual, you just have to figure out which is the best for you. Remember that there is a difference between the National Guard, Reserves and Activie Duty Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. The National Guard are controlled by the State in which you reside in (Title 32)and are for part time work (one weekend a month, two weeks a year) for training. There are full time positions in each state's NG, but very few for people that are just out of Basic. The only services that are offered in the NG status are Army and Air Force, the Navy and Marines offer Reserve status. Active duty services are controlled by the federal government (Title 10) and are assigned to the National Command Authority (NCA).

There is alot of smack talk about which service is better and so on, but you need to figure out what is the best for you and what goals you have in life and which path will help you reach them.

Remember, joining is a calling. Once you sign the papers, they own you. There are several present and former military members here (like myself).

Best of luck,

Groovy
